Development of New H-type Tool Steel Materials via Wire- and Powder-based Laser Metal Deposition for Toughness and Hardness Enhancement

This project will develop an innovative hybrid CAM-based laser added manufacturing process. The process simultaneously uses wire feed and small amounts of powder for the adaptive manufacturing of new materials and new material systems “on demand”. Multi-material systems for additive manufacturing and the modification of high-performance components are also addressed. ModuleWorks is developing the adaptive toolpath modules that will be integrated in the virtual process chain. Because material characteristics influence the process, these characteristics are taken into account during toolpath planning.
