ModuleWorks release 2013.4 CAD/CAM components

May 9, 2013

ModuleWorks, the leading supplier of CAD/CAM components for toolpath generation and simulation, has announced the latest release of its CAM components, version 2013.4. The new release, the 1st major update of 2013, offers many new features, further expanding capability for 3-5 Axis machining and simulation.

ModuleWorks is at the forefront of 5-Axis machining and Simulation technology, providing the machining and simulation technology that powers many of the popular CAM systems available today.

Highlights of the new release are shown below:

5-Axis Machining
Our recently re-designed SWARF machining has further enhancements and now provides improved point distribution to ensure a smoother toolpath and optimum material removal.

3 to 5 axis toolpath conversion is a popular technique, tilting the tool to avoid collisions. It now offers improved tool control by allowing tilting behaviour to be defined independently for short and long collision avoidance segments.

The new Multiblade machining option has been a very successful addition to the product range. The latest release adds support for bullmill style tools.

5-Axis machining now offers new tilting strategies for tilt through curve and tilt away from curve providing additional tool control options.

3-Axis Machining
ModuleWorks 3-Axis mesh based machining toolpaths continue to expand capability and can now be generated from wire frame geometry which is ideal for prismatic type 2½D machining applications using solid model edges, loops or traditional wire frame type geometry. New with 2013.4, both Face Milling and Roughing can now take wire frame geometry as input.

In addition, Roughing has also been enhanced to allow a parallel cuts strategy.

Simulation
The ModuleWorks material removal engine, Cutsim, now supports grinding application on lathes as shown on the right. STL output from simulation has been improved. Models can be exported faster to a smaller size, while retaining the mesh detail. The STL files can be used as stock for subsequent machining operations. Machine Simulation now allows the rotation of clamps while maintaining collision checking.
