The research and development project “SimSeKo – Simulation and sensor based collision avoidance and toolpath correction for machine tools” is funded by the Federal Ministry of Economic Affairs and Energy (BMWi) as part of the Central Innovation Programme for small and medium-sized enterprises (ZIM) under project no. “ZF4286505PO9” and is supervised by the project management agency AIF.

Details

The set-up of workpieces is a challenge, especially with small batch sizes. Smaller batch sizes due to increasing product individualization and the widespread lack of skilled workers lead to a further increase in the risk of collision.
Only a few systems currently offer collision avoidance taking into account set-up errors and foreign objects in the work area, no system offers adaptive path planning based on this.
This results in an increasing demand for economical sensor-based solution systems for setup error and object detection in machine tools to ensure high reliability and availability.
The aim of the project is the prototypical development of a software solution for advanced collision avoidance in machine tools, taking into account deviations between the real state in the working space and the simulated target state with adaptive path planning as well as a hardware solution for the protected sensor insertion in the working space with the aim of detecting the position and geometry of workpieces and other interfering contours.
