Aixtooling and ModuleWorks first worked together on research projects as far back as 2008. These projects, and in particular 3DOptics and OptiStruct helped ModuleWorks develop Optics software technology which could then be applied in the Optics manufacturing process by Aixtooling. Further research projects, KoDaRe and MicroAdapt, are now allowing this research to progress even further.

Aixtooling was originally established 10 years ago as a spin off from Fraunhofer IPT in Aachen, with the aim to make optics manufacturing technology available to industry. Good strategic partnerships, the use and mastery of excellent equipment, extensive technological expertise, trusting collaboration with customers, and the trend towards wider use of complexly shaped optics are the fundamental principles of Aixtooling GmbH, and in the past few years they have led to successful corporate development.
As the geometric demands of optics parts continue to increase and the demand for quality also increases, there is plenty of potential for the partnership to expand over the coming years. Bernd Bresseler, Managing Director at Aixtooling says, ‘We are delighted with the progress we have made over the last ten years and look forward to continued success in future.’

Yavuz Murtezaoglu, Managing Director at ModuleWorks says, ‘By working with partners such as Aixtooling we are able to develop our toolpath algorithms to be optimal for specialized applications such as optical molds. We value the application expertise provided by our partners, and are happy that we are able to help them establish market leading positions by taking our algorithms to the market.’

About ModuleWorks
ModuleWorks is a software component provider for the CAD/CAM industry. ModuleWorks’ expertise in 5-Axis Machining and Simulation is recognized throughout the CAM industry and its software components and development services are used by the majority of the leading CAM vendors. ModuleWorks 5-Axis and Simulation software has been used in the manufacture of complex parts for over a decade and they have many users in the global CAD/CAM industry.

About Aixtooling
Aixtooling GmbH was founded in 2005 as a spin-off company of the Fraunhofer Institute for Production Technology IPT, with the vision of establishing precision molding of optical glass as a standard technology for the optical industry in Europe. The young company has extensive competency in every significant component of the process chain for the replicative fabrication of precision glass optics. The core competences of Aixtooling GmbH are mold design, process layout, and the fabrication of ultra-precision molding systems. Feasibility studies and development projects can also be carried out in collaboration with Fraunhofer IPT. Using production-ready molding machines from Japanese machine builder Toshiba Machine Corporation, molded optics can be prototyped and small lots molded on a case-by-case basis.
