Okuma uses the ModuleWorks multi-axis core technology to provide state-of-the-art toolpath generation and verification for bevel gear machining.

ModuleWorks software components are designed for generic surface based cycles and maximum programming flexibility, which enables Okuma to deliver a high-precision bevel gear solution without the need for specialized CNC machines or dedicated CAM solutions.

The ModuleWorks core technology supports all prevalent tools and holders and provides output for all machine types – Table/Table, Table/Head, Head/Head. The flexible core components provide 3-to 5-Axis toolpath conversion, 4-Axis rotary machining and machining direction for 3+2 Axis machining. Advanced multi-pass and adaptive roughing strategies with automatic collision avoidance as well as automated finishing strategies such as SWARF machining and geodesic machining for diverse complex parts are also part of the multi-axis core components.

Because the ModuleWorks software components are a proven core technology with generic application, they accelerate the development and deployment of specialist CAM applications like bevel gear machining.
As Sebastian Viebach, Application Engineer at OKUMA Europe explains: “The ModuleWorks core components offer the flexibility and range of options that make it fast and easy to setup and optimize processes, even complex niche applications on our wide range of machines.”

“We are very pleased with this project that boosts the performance, quality and cost-efficiency of bevel gear machining”, says Heiko Weber, Product Manager for ModuleWorks 5-Axis. “It confirms the growing demand for ModuleWorks technology as the solution of choice in more and more application areas.”
